Honda has agreed to work with Channel 4 to create a new TV series for their online streaming service All 4.
The Evolution of Stunts will be developed for All 4 as part of its sponsorship with Film on 4 and will feature famous stuntman Damien Walters recreating some of cinema’s greatest ever stunts from the last ten decades.
These stunts will be combined in one incredibly ambitious back-to-back stunt, aided by 3D projection, a tumbleator (treadmill) and some of Mr. Walters’ fellow stunt performers.
The new series will be split into three parts which will include the main feature of Damien and his team preparing for the mega stunt, the team actually performing the stunt and a history of movie stunts presented by BBC Radio 1 film critic Ali Plumb.
Damien Walters has worked in some of Hollywood’s biggest releases in recent years, with performances in Kick Ass, Kingsman: Secret Service and James Bond flick Skyfall all on his CV.
Managing director at Honda UK, Philip Crossman has said: “The Evolution of Stunts showcases a clear link between Honda’s challenging spirit and stuntman Damien Walters’ need to push to the next challenge.”
He continued, “Honda has a reputation for creating iconic brand advertising, such as the sky-diving advert, and this new series with All 4 takes it to the next level.”
Channel 4 Live Advert
As Mr. Crossman mentioned, this isn’t the first time Honda has worked with Channel 4. Back in 2008, the two came together to create a live add break which involved a team of parachutists spelling out Honda. You can view the amazing advert here.
The latest series of videos will also play into this mould with an entire ad break takeover on the 26th November during the first break of the showing of The Fast and the Furious 6 on Channel 4.
Damien Walters stunt performance begins with the recreation of two iconic silent film era stunts. First, he will hang from the hands of a skyscraper’s clock as Harold Lloyd did in Safety Last (1923) and follows that by narrowly dodging a house falling on him as the iconic Buster Keaton did in Steamboat Bill Jr (1928).
He will then go on to recreate scenes from the likes of Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest (1959), The Matrix (1999), Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) among other cinematic classics.
The full list of movie stunts which inspired the series are:
- 300 – Sword Fight
- Thing From Another World – Explosion & Burn
- The Matrix – Timeslice High Kick
- Terminator 2 – Bike Chase
- Raiders of the Lost Ark – Truck Drag
- North by Northwest – Crop Duster Dodge
- Dodge City – Bar Fight
- Safety Last – Clock Dangle
- Steamboat Bill Jr – House Fall
